‘anew’ is the hypnotic and emotive new single from Bristol-based, New York-raised artist My Midnight Heart. It’s another slice of irresistible avant-pop from the boundary-pushing artist, who continues to combine ethereal harmonies with oscillating beats and a surreal sonic landscape as comparable to Kate Bush as it is Janet Jackson. On the track’s lyrics, which look into the ego-death of early motherhood, she explains: “I struggled so much reclaiming my identity with my firstborn, I wrote this song wanting to allow myself to enter a speculative space where I gave of myself easily... Opening to the possibility of being alchemized in the process.” My Midnight Heart, real name Angélica Allen, is exploring multi-sensory presentation of her work, with forthcoming releases including remixes, visuals, and a variety of physical and sensory offerings that the listener can experience both from home and through intimate performances. -Dan Peeke
